The hotel is located less than 500 metres from the banks of the river Allier, a starting point for multiple relaxing and sporting activities (walks around Lake Allier and in the Napoléon III park, running, watersports and more), and from the quay (free shuttle boat) where fans of golf or horse-racing can get to the other bank.
Located less than a 5-minute walk from the hotel, Vichy’s town centre offers a large variety of shops as well as outstanding architectural scenery thanks to the variety of styles and eras represented. The shops are open every day of the week, Sunday included.
The Palais des Congrès-Opéra, built on the orders of Napoleon III, is made up of a ballroom, a theatre, and games rooms. The opera hall, located at the heart of the town centre in the Parc des Sources, seats almost 1,500 people. The opera house boasts an Art Nouveau style hall in gold and ivory, the only one of its kind in France.
Vichy’s waters treat joint conditions and digestive problems. The Hall des Sources was created in 1903 and contains several springs (including Chomel, Grande Grille, Lucas and Mesdames). The Source des Célestins is the most famous and the only one to be bottled. It gets its name from a 15th century monastery. The pavilion around the spring, in neo-Louis XVI style, was built in 1908. The public can taste the waters for free.
Created during the reign of Napoleon III, these parks, along with Vichy’s squares, gardens and other green spaces, make up 1/6th of the town’s total area. Parc Napoléon III, covering an area of 7.8 hectares, contains 138 species of plants and is accessible on foot or by bike from the hotel.
This golf club, created in 1908, is located on the left bank of the Allier and is one of the oldest golf clubs in France. The beautiful course has 18 holes amongst century-old trees and boasts an outstanding view of the town of Vichy. It can be reached on foot from the hotel in the summer with the use of the free river shuttle boat. The quay is less than 500 metres from Le Pavillon d’Enghien.
The Centre Thermal des Dômes spa was built between 1899 and 1903 and surprises with its Neo-Moorish style. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the Thermes Callou, which also provides traditional treatment. Le Pavillon d'Enghien is located in between these two thermal spas.
Many festivals and international sporting events are held between March and November (the Napoléon III festival, the Scrabble and tarot championship, Ironman, Vichy’s games festival, fireworks on 14 July and 15 August and more). A calendar showing all of these events is available on the Vichy Destinations website (tourist office, 19 rue du Parc).
The town of Vichy is located in the south of the Allier department, between the Limagne plain and the Bourbonnais mountains. There are many tourist destinations within an hour’s journey from Vichy (Charroux, Billy, Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule, Ebreuil, La Loge des Gardes, Saint-Clément lake and more). You can explore the ‘Bourbonnais’ region through various sporting and cultural activities at these sites.
